I've tried PRP, but how is MCT different?

MCT utilizes autologous blood components like PRP, but adds an extra photo-thermal activation step to stimulate autologous exosomes, ATP, and growth factors for enhanced skin regeneration.

I've tried PRP, but how is MCT different?

Just like PRP, MCT involves drawing your blood and using its concentrated components. However, MCT adds an extra step: awakening those components once more using specialized equipment. Here is a clear breakdown of what that single additional step entails and what remains the same.

MCT and PRP comparison guide

This is the most common question asked by those who have experienced PRP. Please note that this is an informational image created by Seorae Plastic Surgery, not an actual patient photo.

What is identical to PRP?

The process is identical to PRP up to the point of drawing blood and separating platelet-rich plasma. Blood is drawn from your arm, and only the key elements involved in regeneration are isolated.

Because the foundation is identical, the principle of using components derived from your own body remains the same. As a result, the risk of allergic reactions or rejection is relatively low.

Low risk does not mean zero possibility of any reaction, however.

The difference comes down to just one step

It boils down to whether the separated components are used immediately or processed through specialized equipment once more.

Differences Between PRP and MCT

The extra step in MCT involves transferring the separated components into a sterile, single-use kit and stimulating them with light and controlled temperature inside dedicated equipment. A brand-new kit is used for every procedure.

Three primary elements are harnessed during this step: autologous exosomes, which act as cell-to-cell signaling vesicles; 5 key growth factors, substances vital for tissue regeneration; and ATP, the essential energy currency cells utilize when dividing.

According to manufacturer data, this process activates growth factors and ATP by up to approximately three times compared to conventional PRP, yielding around 299.3 billion autologous exosomes per 1 ml of the specialized kit.

However, both treatments aim for similar therapeutic directions: improving skin elasticity, fine lines, redness, overall skin tone, acne, and barrier recovery. The degree of improvement will vary depending on the treated area and individual physiological condition.

Recommended for

We particularly recommend this treatment for individuals who have undergone repeated PRP, laser, radiofrequency, or peeling treatments without fully satisfying results.

· Middle-aged individuals noticing wrinkles, loss of elasticity, and visible skin sagging

· Those looking to recover from post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation or damaged skin

· Those with sensitive skin who prefer autologous components with minimal risk of immune reactions

Meeting these criteria does not automatically make you a candidate; suitability depends strictly on your individual skin condition.

Moreover, it is not always an either-or decision between PRP and MCT. If you are also dealing with enlarged pores or acne scars, combining both procedures can be considered.

What Still Remains Exactly Like PRP

The blood collection procedure is unchanged. With just one additional activation step, it remains an autologous blood-derived treatment at its core. Post-care precautions are identical as well.

· Tenderness and a dull ache at the treated area may persist for 1 to 3 days. This is a temporary, normal response.

· You may take a light shower on the day of treatment, but avoid aggressive facial massage and heat therapy.

· Refrain from saunas, strenuous exercise, and alcohol consumption for 2 to 3 days post-treatment.

· Avoid taking anti-inflammatory medications (NSAIDs) during this same period, as they can diminish regenerative efficacy.

Post-treatment care guidelines

Save these instructions to easily review them on your treatment day. This is an informational graphic produced by the clinic featuring a model, not a photograph of an actual patient.

It also shares the characteristic of not being a single-session cure-all. While a single session can help reset overall skin vitality, for comprehensive anti-aging benefits, a series of 3 sessions spaced 3 to 4 weeks apart is recommended.

If pain intensifies over time or swelling and localized heat do not subside, do not endure it alone—please contact the clinic immediately.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Does "3 times" mean 3 times the visible clinical results?

No. The "3 times" stated in manufacturer documentation refers specifically to the degree of activation of growth factors and ATP after passing through the equipment, not that the clinical results will be 3 times greater. Clinical outcomes vary depending on the application area and individual health status.

Q. Are all exosome treatments the same?

MCT is an autologous method obtained from your own platelets. The data we reference applies specifically to this autologous procedure; we do not have evidentiary grounds to compare it directly against alternative sources or commercial non-autologous products. During your consultation, it is best to first clarify which source and preparation method will be utilized.

Q. Can I receive treatment while pregnant or breastfeeding?

Although it is based on your own blood, this period involves significant hormonal shifts. We advise making an informed decision after direct consultation with our medical staff. Please also inform us in advance if you are currently taking any medications.
